Starting A Blog In 2021, Great Tips To Get You Started On Blogging

If you are thinking of starting a blog in blog in 2021 and still wondering if you should, the short answer would be Yes! I started my blog as Coloursbyray.com but finally decided to change my blog to Yrayideh.com which is a space that is still a work in progress. So here are some tips to starting a blog in 2021 and why you should too.

Pick A Domain Name

When picking a domain name be sure to pick a name that you would want for a long time. At the time I started blogging, I wanted to talk about beauty related content. Fast forward some years later, I wanted a name that resonated with my other interest too. So find a name that stands out and resonates with your audience and one you would want to use for a long time.

WordPress.com vs WordPress.org

There are many blogging platforms out there but one of the most common confusion is which of the WordPress platform would be best suited to you. Find A Good Hosting Company

After finding a domain name and checking its availability, you need to find a good hosting company.  Bluehost is simply for the ease of integration for WordPress and their customer service. Having to pay for my domain, and hosting with the integration of WordPress made it the easy choice and with as low as $4.13/m

Select A Theme

One of the things that makes or breaks a blog is your theme. If you find that your blog is hard to navigate or has too much going on, then it makes it a tedious experience for your readers.

Finding a theme can be quiet difficult and can take a while. The theme on my blog is from Pipdig.co, their themes are aesthetically pleasing and have easy set up guides. You can always find amazing themes on other platforms such as Themeforest. A good theme can range anywhere between $45-$100

Set Up Your Backend

Now you’ve got the easy part out of the way its time to set up your backend and this can take a couple of hours a week. Here are few ideas of what you would need. there are great resources on Youtube as well.

1. Adding your Categories/Pages: This will be the areas you want to blog about. If you’re interested in cats, food and babies I don’t see why they can’t all exist in one blog. Putting them in categories will give it a better layout.
2. Google analytics: This is not even optional in my opinion, because it’s important to know who is coming to your blog and what kind of content they are digesting and how they are finding you. This will give you ideas for future content and know what kind of content your audience responds to the most
3. SEO optimisation: This is a continuous learning curve. This is important if you want to reach a wider audience. This helps your content be seen and to rank on search engines and get your blog post to the right audience.

There are so many things that you might need to set up in the back end but that will also be determined by what you are looking to capture. Youtube will be your lifesaver.

Now its time to put out your first blog, don’t be afraid to start, you didn’t go through this process not to have anyone not see it. So Post your blog and share with your audience on different platforms.
